What version of the Mac OS are you using? Still stuck in the Classic glory days? Limited to 10.5 due to not having an Intel Mac? At the latest and greatest with 10.6?

Vote the poll and tell us!

My main Mac at home has OS 10.5.8, but this iMac has the latest 10.6.3 version.

A little deceptive since I have a custom-built PC as my main computer, but on my dying laptop I'm running Snow Leopard.

I meant deceptive as far as me choosing Snow Leopard. So no, my PC is in fact a full-fledged PC running Windows 7. Since we're talking about OS's here anyway, Windows does better facilitate my information-heavy workflow, but to each his own. I came for the Mac, I stay for the community Smile .

So that's why you left Mac GUI for such a long time! :o

Actually, I feel out of place on an OS with no command line. I need my UNIX!

Haha, I actually built this computer in October, but really my first few computers were PCs, so Macs were a small detour anyway Razz . Well, Windows always has DOS and I found the usefulness of OS X's command line undone by the ridiculousness of trying to install/update any packages I needed. Python was the worst. Now I just have Ubuntu in a virtual machine if I need it and my MacBook if the power goes out and I'm desperate Razz .

Well, it took me a few tries to learn how to properly compile software, but now it's pretty much easy for me. I use the command line every day.

System 9.2 was the greatest, but sadly only on my old machine now.
I'm using OS 10.6.3 most of the time, but customised a little to restore OS9 style features that Apple didn't take forward.

10.6.3 on my iMac and 10.4.9 on my G4 and if I break out the old 7100 and plugged it in it would be OS 7 Smile

I've cut back a bit on software updates as they can really eat into one's bandwidth allowance and mostly involve stuff I don't use much. Better iTunes support or a Safari tweak. Well, who cares ?

And for the listed improvements in OS 10.6.4 does one really need to download 640 Mbytes ? I'm guessing it's a catch-all update for all platforms, but it would be nice if Apple could be a little more targeted. Maybe just a download for major bugs and security issues, not a large chunk of the OS.

So outstanding are:
607 Mb System update
102 Mb ITunes update
165 Mb NeoOffice update
25 Mb Google Chrome update

Over 4 days worth of bandwidth allowance and it probably won't be too long before another set of updates come along.

I'm in good standing on OS updates, unless a new OS 10.5 update is released!
