How to Activate Mac GUI web hosting To setup your free 1GB Mac GUI email account and web hosting, you must first login and access the Preferences page. Then click the Web Services link.
If you are going to use Mac GUI to send and receive email or host a web site, we would like some more information about you. Fill in the requested information, and click the Submit button. Everything will be processed automatically in approximately 45 minutes. To check your status, use the same page. The text will switch from grey 'Inactive', to blue 'Processing', and finally to green 'Active'.
As soon as your email and web hosting are ready, you will be sent an email. Back to top |

What is FTP? FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It is essentially a part of the Internet that allows you to upload and download files to remote web servers very quickly. Note that it does NOT use or involve a web browser! Back to top |

What do I use it for? If you want to use Mac GUI WebDisk to store your files or your personal web page, you must use FTP to upload your files to Mac GUI. Back to top |

How do I connect? First, make sure that you have the server entered in as ftp://ftp.macgui.com
Then, enter your Mac GUI email address as the username, for example: username@macgui.com

I can't access my Web Disk! If you've followed the instructions, perhaps you haven't activated your Mac GUI Web Services. Go to the Preferences page and make sure that the Status is green Active. If not, you may need to fill in some more details.
It could also be that Mac GUI FTP is very busy, so you'll have to try again later. Or you could be entering the wrong username or password. Back to top |

How to host iCal calendars Mac GUI allows both public and private iCal hosting (iCal is Apple's calendar application). If you want to host your calendar on your Mac GUI Web Disk, you need to download iCal for Mac GUI.

How much disk space and bandwidth do I get? Everyone is allowed 200 MB of web disk space with which to upload his or her files or web pages. Bandwidth (how much data is transferred from the web server to each person) is not set to any limit. However, if your monthly bandwidth usage spikes up during the month, we may check into or disable your web space. Back to top |

What kinds of files aren't allowed? You can't use Mac GUI to distribute unauthorized copies of copyrighted material, including photographs, artwork, text, recordings, designs, or computer programs. Back to top |

I keep getting a 404 error! This may be because the Mac GUI Web Disk is cAsE-seNsitIVe. In the future, make sure the filenames you use are all lower-case. Also, files starting with a period as well as filenames with a space are not allowed. Back to top |

What is error 403 'Forbidden'? This error occurs from one of two reasons: 1.) You do not have permission to view that web page, or 2.) You are trying to access a directory which doesn't contain an index.html file. Back to top |
